Craig Bates kicks things off with a story about a business whose revenues dropped suddenly because of the latest Google algorithm changes (code named "Panda") while Scott Spaid puts the magnifying glass on Internet privacy and a certain large social network's poor behavior. Ah, the late 90′s…what an innocent time that may have seemed. Many of us were living Semi-Charmed Lives, trying to find The Way as we tried to Take A Picture while Learning to Fly on our way to Walkin’ on the Sun.

What do all of those things have in common, besides trying to mash up as many references to late 90′s songs as possible in one sentence? I found all of those song titles with a quick search on Google, which has become as dominating a brand name for search as Coke and Nike are to their respective industries. Since starting in the late 90′s, Google has lived by an unofficial motto of “Don’t Be Evil “, although a recent change to the Google algorithm called “Panda” has one small company wondering if that is exactly the case.

Client Spotlight: SATO Corporation

SATO Corporation, a billion dollar organization based in Japan and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, is the world’s leading provider of Integrated Automatic Identification and Data Collection solutions that leverage barcode and RFID Technologies. Facebook, Google, or your Website: Which do you trust more?

The month of May has turned out to be a doosey in the online privacy department, which got to me thinking: do people really care about their personal data being bandied about by the largest Internet companies in the world?

Earlier this month, top-five PR firm Burson-Marsteller initiated a campaign pitching major media outlets, such as USA Today, with a story that slammed Google and its privacy policies in regards to a new product they may be launching called Social Circles. The problem with the smear campaign is it was bought and paid for by the ethically challenged Facebook. If you’ve seen The Social Network, this lack of character should be no surprise at all. Just ask the Winklevoss twins.
